Montserrat

A Beautiful Ride - Monserrat

The Valley Floor

Today we headed out to Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery built in the early 1600’s and rebuilt several times since then. It's a very beautiful area north of Barcelona about 40kms in total and from our hotel was an easy 20 min drive. The road in is incredibly picturesque and for a motorcycle is perfect with great pavement. Once there the vistas over the Spanish countryside are similar to being at the top of the Tram in Palm Springs, or looking from the summit on the Highway to the Sun.

We walked to St. Michael the Archangel’s cross, out on another mountain, and then returned to the Basilica for the 1 pm choir recital which with the pipe organ music leaves you feeling invigorated.

The Black Madonna
This Basilica hosts high behind the alter a statue of the “Negro Madonna’, who holds a Black Orbe. Tradition has it that if you stroke the Orbe your wish will come true.

Stations of the Cross

Weather again has been fantastic, sunny and highs in the low to mid 20’s. amazingly consistent for early May. Our experience with Spain to date has been great, now if we can get some good food at the right time of day!
